Cowcat

A black and white tuxedo, 'Cowcat', named for his coat markings. Cowcat was subjected to 36 hours of non-stop torture but this is not what we remember him for. We remember him for his warrior cat spirit, fierce and brave until the very end. Even his murderer commented that he was surprised that Cowcat never once cried out throughout.

On 14th March 2023, Chinese social media influencer and well known food blogger, Xu Zhihui 'Jack Latiao' captured a community cat, Cowcat, in Funan County, Fuyang City, Anhui Province.

Over many hours Cowcat was subjected to different types of torture methods including being punctured with a hot iron fork, declawed and contained in a barren cage. Cowcat was starved, not given water and deprived of any sleep and any reprieve of the nightmare.

The following day, Jack Latiao took Cowcat to a woodland area. Here, he bound Cowcat to a tree and subjected him to further torture and beatings. After a total of 36 hours, Cowcat's ordeal came to an end when he was placed in a bag, still alive and burned to death.

All of the torture was filmed and uploaded to Chinese social group QQ and to Telegram cat torture groups.

When the videos of Cowcat's torture and death leaked to the wider public there was outrage. During the course of an investigation, police found hundreds of animal torture videos on Latiao's phone. Latiao posted an insincere apology to his social media following and went into hiding.

Cowcat's warrior spirit and bravery has inspired advocates across the globe and his image is the official logo for Feline Guardians. We see Cowcat on clothing, advocacy Instagram accounts and websites. His image represents strength, courage and determination; just like Cowcat, we will never give up until there is justice for all cats and kittens that are victims of these cat torture networks. We will keep fighting, always channelling Cowcat's spirit until there is change and justice.
