Gui

Hide and seek, I see Gui. Head poking out of a box, black patch on your whisker pad. You were meant for games, balls of string and a warm lap after all that play.

Gui was an adorable black and white kitten with a distinctive patch over his lower nose and one side of his whisker pad. We have a video and pictures of Gui prior to the torture. The video shows his head poking out of a cardboard box, no fear just curiosity. In another image he is being held by someone and again looks curious and excited. Gui's early kittenhood was spent with a kind carer that showed him nothing but love and these early experiences would have shaped his trusting and curious nature.

In July 2025, he was unknowingly adopted by a maggot called Chen Zhiping. Gui endured 5 days of torture before being killed. He was waterboarded, wasabi rubbed in his eyes, mustard inserted into him with a syringe and finally he was crushed to death under the heel of Zhiping.

The torture was filmed and uploaded to torture chat groups. Zhiping sent before and after photos of Gui to the group. He seemed to imply that Gui had put up a fight and made the comments "He stayed alive in my hands for 5 days" and that he was the "longest standing record holder."

The wider advocate community named him Gui which means noble and valuable in Mandarin.

Noble and valuable. That is what he was, and that is how he will be remembered.
